Sock blanket

Tamara is working on some knee socks using KP sock memories in Flower Power.  I had made socks in this colorway awhile back, and offered her the leftovers.  She declined, but the small ball still sits on my coffee table.  While spinning this week, I saw it and an idea popped into my head – a blanket!

I normally don’t use a full ball of yarn when making socks. I usually end up with a decent amount of yarn leftover, but not enough for another pair or even a pair of kid socks (especially for my kid, who just got size 3 1/2 boots….).  So I’m left with these little balls of yarn that seem to be multiplying in a drawer.

What my idea was, was to make a swatch, maybe 4×4, and then sew these swatches together.  I’d have a warm blanket reminding me of the socks that I made, even when the socks were long gone.  Maybe I could incorporate the stitch from the sock into the swatch to really remind me of which sock I had made.

I did some quick planning, and to get a decent size blanket, 50×60, I’m going to need a lot of swatches.  But I make a lot of socks.  I’m quite excited about this project….excited enough to start some swatches tonight…starting with that KP Flower Power.

Keep watching this space for progress.

Karen…. you are AWESOME! I just browsed your website. I absolutely adore the little baby knit sweater. OMG, you’re really making me want to get out there and knit. (If only I could afford it!)
